We're Closing Up Soon

We have about one more month before we close up shop for the year. This means that we're starting to plan the end of year cleanup on the last day of the season (10/27).  Please put that date on your schedules if you are up for helping with the breaking down of a lot of items that need to go away for the winter.

Also, to help us be ready for the winter, please let us know if you notice anything that is in need of repair.  We're working on a few items right now--the showers being a big item--but we really want to know if there's something out there that needs to be fixed.  Please email us at board@orindaparkpool.org if you come across something in disrepair these next few weeks.  We do want to help with these items as soon as we can.

Thank You Gifts for the Lifeguards

As the season comes to an end, our pool would like to pool together a gift for our lifeguards, Ricardo and Denroy.  This gift is to thank them for another season of hard work and vigilance as they continue to keep our swimmers safe every day. If you would like to contribute to this gift, please Venmo Sara Alm (@SaraAlm) your donation (last four digits, 7256). Please mention "OPP Guard Thank You" in the subject line when you send the contribution. We are suggesting donations around $25 to $30, but feel free to give whatever you feel comfortable giving.

Let's Close Out the Pool in Style!

More specific plans will be released soon, but the party will be open to all members and is slated to cost $10 per attendee.  Please try to make this super spooooky event--which is 100% kid friendly.

Board Meeting Updates!!!

As a reminder, we're moving our meetings soon!

Every winter, the OPP Board migrates southeast to the warmer environs of the Orinda Library Gallery Room. In October-March, unless the weather is spectacular or there is an extenuating circumstance, our meetings will be at that location on the second Monday of the month at 7pm.

Annual Member Meeting and Board Election

Tuesday, November 12, 2024

Please save the date to attend our annual member meeting and board election on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at 7pm at the Orinda Library Gallery Room.

This year we have three board positions up for election and the nominating committee has identified three candidates to fill them. Please read through the statements below and come show your support in November.

SECRETARY

Jake Blackshear (Incumbent)

My family has deep roots at OPP! Lauren grew up swimming here and was even a lifeguard in college. Now our two boys (10 and 13) spend almost every waking minute here in the summers, swimming at OMPA and repping OPP all over town. In addition to my 4 years of experience serving as the secretary at OPP, I have over 17 years of experience in nonprofit management at UCSF. It has been a pleasure to deepen my own connection to OPP over the past few years and I would love to continue supporting the organization by serving as secretary for another term.

MEMBERSHIP

Ari Hatton

I’m Ari Hatton and I would be honored to join Orinda Park Pool’s Board as Membership co-chair.

I truly believe Orinda Park Pool has a touch of magic.  The grounds are beautiful. The pool is enormous. The membership community has a chill vibe and the swim team cultivates strong bodies and good hearts.  My blood runs blue with how much I love this pool!

I live just a few houses away from OPP and you can find my two Stingrays (Kate 13 and Robby 11) there all summer long.  I’ve served on the Wagner Ranch Parent’s Club board and am currently on the board for Orinda Intermediate.  Volunteering in my community is very important to me and nothing would make me prouder than serving the pool I love so much.

Efficiency, organization, a positive attitude and a willingness to roll my sleeves up are just a few of the traits I think will be assets to this role.  I would love your vote.

SPECIAL PROJECTS

Ghazaleh Afshar

I would be interested in the special projects position on the board.  Managing capital improvements for the pool is an exciting project that would allow me to use my strengths as a manager and hopefully leave improvements that my community and I can enjoy for many years to come.  I was the Chief of Gynecologic surgery for many years at 2 large hospitals and enjoyed the responsibilities that came with the position.  Management and finding common ground are skills of mine.  Also, I have done various size projects in my home and am very comfortable working with contractors and holding them accountable both to their timelines and cost projections.

Practice Updates

Don't Forget to Register for the Meadow Halloween Meet on October 13th!  We know that many of you have slightly unsettled schedules for the 13th, but if you're hoping to come, mark your child as a "yes" on Teamunify!
