Party Time at the Pool


The 4th of July week is coming!  Please see below for a listing of all of the festivities coming up this week. We've got food, we've got money dives, we've got inner tube racing, we've got other chaos on the horizon--and all of this along with a shortened practice week for swim team!  There's a lot of fun going on at OPP!

July 2nd Taco Tuesday

Exciting news! Chef Jorge and team have agreed to offer taco nights roughly weekly for the remainder of the season. It won't always fall on a Tuesday, but next week it does! Join your fellow members for dinner poolside from 5:30-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2. Please register if you can make it so the Café can plan accordingly.

4th of July Activities

All OPP members (and guests!) are invited to join in the family-friendly festivities planned on the 4th of July, starting at 12:30 p.m. after the parade downtown.

12:30-2:30 p.m. - All-American BBQ Buffet featuring pulled pork, BBQ chicken, hot dogs, mac & cheese, potato salad, coleslaw, green salad, corn, rolls, and watermelon. Please register here so the Cafe can plan accordingly! (Note, in addition to catering our BBQ Buffet, the Cafe will be open from 12-3p.m. on July 4th for your snack, drink, and ice cream needs).

1:00 - 3:00 p.m. - Relay Races, Water Balloon Toss, Cornhole, and Volleyball. All are encouraged to participate - look for sign-ups posted on the bulletin board near the Kids' Camp.

3:00 - 3:30 p.m. - The infamous money dive with $300+ worth of loot in the pool! All kids are welcome to join in the fun - don't forget your goggles!


Practice Updates


Practices this week are only Monday through Wednesday!  No practice on Thursday and Friday this week!  Many coaches and swimmers are on vacation this week, so please be ready for a slightly different week.

11 and ups: We will be focusing on race plan ideas and small group work on technical skills

10 and under- small group work on technical skills and proper timing with all strokes

OPP's Got Talent! July 18th

Mark your calendars for a special OPP talent show on Thursday, July 18, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Don't miss the opportunity to show your stuff. There's room to register, and we're excited to announce that Coach Jamo will MC the event.

Group acts and ensembles are encouraged, so long as one member of the group/ensemble is a school-age OPP member. Register to participate here. 

All members and guests (grandparents, anyone?) are encouraged to watch the show!

Create edible creations with Sara Little, owner of Bowls & Books, during this interactive 90 minute class. Little hands (8+) encouraged to learn how to pipe & paint sugar cookies. RSVP here

The 2024 Summer Olympics will have just concluded, but the real winners have yet to be crowned. Join us at TLT @ OPP to learn about 5 wines from France, Germany, South Africa, New Zealand and the US and enjoy the perfect food pairing bite for each wine. RSVP here

Saturday, August 24, 11-12:30pm | Poolside Paint & Pour 

Come enjoy a relaxing morning of watercolor painting and bubbles at OPP. Participants will receive an introduction to watercolor plus learn techniques to create a personal masterpiece from OPP member and designer, Gloria Kim. RSVP here.

Getting To Know Our Pool

Today we get to meet someone that is well known to both ministingers and swim team members of all ages.  Coach Charlie--who also goes by the title of the wonderful back and fly swimmer, Charlie Hallman!


Q: In what city were you born?  Do you still live there, or have you moved to a new city in recent years? 

A: I was born in San Francisco, we moved to a house in Oakland when I was 3 that I still live in. 


Q: What grade are you in school, and what school do you attend?

A: I just finished my senior year of high school at The Athenian School in Danville.

Q: Do you have plans for after high school yet?

A: Next year I’ll be spending my first semester abroad in Rome and then attending Tulane University in New Orleans starting in the spring.


Q: Do you swim for your high school?

A: Yes I did! I got the privilege of being team captain & completely recommend high school swim.


Q: Do you participate in any other sports and/or activities at your school?

A: I was on the soccer and basketball team as well.


Q: How long have you been swimming at OPP?

A: 10 years, starting when I was 9


Q: How long have you been a coach at OPP?

A: Since my freshman year of high school, this is my 4th year.


Q: What are your primary coaching duties this year?

A: I coach the 7/8 & 9/10 practices, as well as doing technique lessons. 


Q: What are some of your favorite things to do during the summer when you're not at the pool?

A: I spend all day at the pool! In the free time I have I like to hang in Coach Sean’s backyard or drive out to the San Ramon city center and hangout with friends from school. 


Q: Can you tell us about one of your proudest moments at OPP?

A: My proudest moments at OPP have definitely been watching my mini stingers become strong swimmers as well as placing well at OMPA!


Q: As a wonderful former mini stinger coach, do you have any advice for families looking to have their children prepare to advance from mini stingers to the swim team?

A: Your kid can do it! This pool has swimmers of every strength and it’s built around community. Nobody will be left behind and the coaches will take care of anyone who needs help.


Q: Do you have any family members that you'd like to thank or say hi to as we close out the interview?

A: I’d like to thank my parents for introducing me to the pool and for showing up at meets and other pool events!
