From the OPP

As we approach the 2011 Opening

during the off season in addition to our ongoing management and
fiscal responsibilities:
- keyless entry

restroom - we want to alert members that this work will not be
completed until May 1. Until the work is completed women
will be using the ADA restroom by the guard shack.
Thank you for your patience!
- repair the
canteen/changing room roof and other maintenance items
- updated the OPP by-laws,
latest version is available on the OPP website
- emailed invoices
for annual dues and fees
- more utilization
of OPP grounds during the off-season
- improved
communication with the OPP membership
- increased security
for the OPP property and facilities
- planning in
progress: update/replace the front entrance
We're looking forward to the 2011 season....Go
Park!

MEMBERSHIP DUES & ASSESSMENT
Annual Membership Dues and
Assessment were due on March 1st. This year we inaugurated
emailing the invoices, in an effort to save OPP money and help the
environment. We have "snail mailed" the 1st and
2nd Late Notices to those of you who have not submitted your payment.
If you have not paid, please do so, along with the $200 late
fee which now applies, per your Bylaws.
EMERGENCY CONTACT FORM
All Emergency Contact Forms
must be completed and submitted before using the pool. If you
have not completed this form, please follow this link and submit your
info electronically: Emergency Contact
Form
ELECTRONIC GATE FOBS
We have switched from gate keys to electronic fobs
this season. All members will need a fob to gain access
to the pool, the gate keys will no longer
open the gates. Each family membership will get 2 fobs, each single membership will get 1 fob.
Extra fobs are available for $10 each. Contact
Marcella to purchase: maustenfeld@me.com
Fobs can be picked up at the pool Opening Day
Sunday April 17, 10-Noon. Other pick
up times to be announced.
GUEST PASS
2011 Guest Passes will be mailed to members shortly.
This pass allows you to bring 10 guests to the pool this
season. Additional guests are $5 each, which will be charged at
the gate. Guests will not be permitted unless the member is present
and signs in their guest. Fees are paid at the Canteen/Cafe at
the front gate, or at the Lifeguard Shack if the Canteen is not
open. Once again we will have a gate monitor who will be
checking our member database when you arrive to use the pool.
Please cooperate with this procedure, as it guarantees use of your
pool by members only and their guests.
MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES
Single membership is for one person only. If the single member
brings another member of his/her family, or a guest, guest fees must
be paid. Single members must be over 18.
Family membershipcovers 2 or more members
of the same household. Children up to the age of 23 can use the pool
under the family membership after which they are considered
guests.
Senior Single membershipis
for members who are 65 or over by March 1 of this year. The same rules
apply as the Single membership.
Senior Family membership is for a stockholder who is 65
or over and the membership covers 2 or more members of the same
household. The same rules apply as above for a Family Membership.
Rentals/Au Pairs are added to the membership for $100.
This allows the renter or Au Pair to use the pool with or without
your children.
If you have any questions
about these rules or other membership issues, please get in touch
with one of us at the numbers listed below.
Letʼs get this summer started!

Another
season approaches! Your management and lifeguard
staff is again excited to be working at the most beautiful
pool in the East Bay!
There will be a few changes with
regards to how the various populations at the pool interact; check
especially the swim team, adult time, and lap swimming
schedules. We feel the board has come up with an
equitable pool sharing plan.
This season our guards will be
more easily identifiable, with uniforms for all weather conditions.
Speaking of weather and all
things uncontrollable, this season we'll be sending updates to the
OPP web site every hour or so (depending on changes at the pool)
highlighting pool and weather conditions, including temperatures,
wind, how crowded it is or isn't, and other information to help you
decide if you want to make the journey to OPP.
We also will have a new
keyless entry system. This caveat: With that system in
place, we'll be more vigilant about the gates being propped open,
even during swim meets. The county has let us know that this
practice is not only unsafe but illegal, so please do NOT prop
the gate open after you enter, even if you have to make several trips
into the grounds (for parties, etc).
Remember, too,
that if you have any concerns regarding the pool, you should
call me at (510) 816-7720.
We look forward to your
complete enjoyment of the time you spend at Orinda Park Pool...see
you soon!

The season is just around the corner - we hope you are as
excited as we are! I know the swimmers in my household are
counting down the days until the pool opens and are planning to be
first through the gate on Clean-up Day, first in the pool on April 17th,
and first in line for pancakes afterwards! We hope to see all
of you there, pitching in to get the pool up and running for our
Spring Clinics which begin Monday April 18th.
We have a variety of Spring Clinic options available -
our goal is for every swimmer to take advantage of this time in the
spring to lay the technical foundation for a successful
season. SPRING CLINIC INFO
REGULAR
TEAM WORKOUTS BEGIN MAY 2nd - BE THERE! Head Coach Brad Allen
will be leading our 8&under age groups and Technical Director
Josh Scott the 9&ups, both working closely with Senior Coaches
Ashley Hall, Nick Zefeldt, and Carina Klescewski. We are thrilled to welcome
Carina, who has spent the winter finishing her premed requirements at
DVC while interning in sports medicine, back for her third year with
the team. Our Senior Coaching staff will be rounded out come
June by Lindsay Allen who will be returning from a semester abroad in
Seville, Spain. Lindsay has been a Stingray since before she
was born and not even the lure of tapas on a hot summer night in
Spain can keep her away from a season at PARK! PRACTICE SCHEDULES
SEASON
REGISTRATION: Registration has begun! If you are a
returning family you should have received an electronically generated
email with your registration login and instructions. New
families who have already contacted us should have received
instructions forwarded by Sara Curran our Team Ambassador (see NEW
FAMILY section below). Contact us at swimteam@orindaparkpool.org if you
have any registration questions. Up-to-date info about
registration will also be posted on the website home page.
SEASON REGISTRATION COSTS AND INFO
CALENDAR:
RESERVE THE WEEKEND OF AUGUST 5,6, and 7th
- we want 100% attendance at the 2011 OMPA Championship Meet.
All Team Events have been added to the website - go to "OPP
Events" on the horizontal menu. As always, calendar dates
are subject to change in the event of a catastrophic scheduling error
by any one of your 3 co-directors :) 2011 VISUAL CALENDAR
NEW FAMILIES:
Considering swim team for the first time? Welcome! The
OPP Swim Team is open to all swimmers, ages 18 and under, whose
family is a member in good standing at Orinda Park Pool.
Swimmers are grouped according to their age on June 15th.
Those unable to swim 25 yards of unassisted Freestyle begin in our
Mini-Stinger program and are moved up into the competitive program
when they achieve this goal and are able to practice with the team.
If you are
not already on our New Family list, please email our team ambassador Sara
Curran. She will forward you all team communications until
you are officially registered. Please plan to attend our New
Family Meeting and Tea at the pool on Sunday May 15th from
2-4pm. New Families who attend the meeting will be able to sign
up for their job obligations in advance of the crowd. Our
volunteer coordinator, Carrie Smith, will attend the meeting to help
guide you through the obligation sign-up process.
SWIM TEAM
OBLIGATIONS: Like the pool itself, the OPP swim team is a
volunteer-run organization. While some choose to go way
above and beyond the call of duty (perhaps the delicate mixture of
chlorine/sun/oak pollen addles the brain, leading to these full-blown
cases of OPP obsession, we do not know...,) we could not possibly be
successful without the active participation of each and every family
on the team. Families are thus required to sign up for work
shift obligations to assist with swim team operations including
meets, social events, and other behind-the-scenes tasks.
2011 OBLIGATION DETAILS
GEAR DAYS:
Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1, 11-3pm at the pool. TEAM SUIT AND GEAR INFO
LESSONS:
Information on Summer Swim Lessons can be found on both the Pool and
team websites. If staffing permits we may also have preseason
lessons available - information will go out by email to both the team
and general pool membership. SWIM LESSON INFO

Guest Privileges
|
|
Members are encouraged to
bring guests to the pool, to the extent it does not interfere with
the leisure and comfort of other members. Guests must follow the same
rules of conduct as members while on the pool grounds.
Limits: Each membership may bring a maximum of two
(2) guests, or one family, on any one day. Guests must be with
a pool member while on pool property. During very warm weather, check
with the pool by phone (Tom Appelbaum:
510-816-7720) before bringing guests. The pool must limit the
total number of persons using the pool. The total number of
guests allowed on any given day may not exceed 50, and may be less.
Fees: A guest will be admitted only if the member
signs the name of the guest and pays the guest fee at the Café or
guard shack. We give all members a complimentary guest pass for
10 uses, which will be mailed to members shortly.
Special Guests: Non-swimming senior citizens and
handicapped persons brought as a member's guest will be admitted free
with a member. If they use the pool, however, a guest fee must
be paid.
Parties: Arrangements for parties (e.g. Birthday
parties) must be made with the pool Manager (Tom Appelbaum:
510-816-7720) and you will need to sign a contract and make a deposit
at least three days before the event. The decision of whether
to allow such parties will be made on the basis of anticipated pool
attendance. Areas for parties are confined to the picnic area
under the oak trees or the deck area by the Café. You must pay
a guest fee for each guest at your party and you are responsible for
the guest at all times.

Rules Regarding Fecal Alerts
|
|
No one likes pool closures, especially on hot summer
days. Please do your part to prevent Fecal
Alerts.
- If you or your child
has stomach or intestinal illness or has experienced recent
uncontrollable bowel movements, keep yourself or child out of
the pool. Children in particular should stay out of the
pool until you are sure the episode has passed.
- All
toddlers must use "swim diapers"
and a "liner" when using the pool. The
swim diapers must be checked regularly and
changed immediately if soiled. Swim diapers and liners are
available at the Café or Guard Shack for a fee. Lifeguards
will look for swim diapers on toddlers and remind the parents,
if necessary.
- Supervise and
attend to your toddler or child when using the restrooms and
clean up after them. Take young children to the bathroom
periodically and in particular before swimming.
- Discuss with
your child that our pool is not a toilet.
Anyone determined to have caused a fecal accident in the
pool or restroom will be fined $100, payable by the member, and in
the case of a guest, payable by the sponsoring member.
